How to Leave the Past Behind

how to leave the past behind and embrace the future, purpose

The past is a part of who we are, but it does not have to define who we become. Every experience—whether joyful or painful—has shaped us in some way. While we cannot change what has already happened, we can choose how we respond to it today. If you are wondering how to leave the past behind, please know that you are not alone. There is hope for you.

Please watch the Great News video to find out the hope and new life that you can receive today. Jesus loves you and he has a beautiful purpose for your life.

Leaving the past behind begins with acceptance. Accepting the past does not mean approving of everything that happened. It means acknowledging that it cannot be changed. Holding on to regret, resentment, or guilt only keeps us tied to moments that are over.

Forgiveness is another important step. Sometimes this means forgiving others for the hurt they caused. Other times, it means forgiving ourselves for mistakes we have made. Everyone makes choices they wish they could change. Learning from those experiences is more valuable than punishing ourselves for them.

Focusing on the present helps us move forward. Spending time with supportive people, pursuing meaningful goals, practicing gratitude, and taking care of our physical and mental well-being can shift our attention from what was to what is possible now. Small daily actions often lead to lasting change.

It is also helpful to let go of unrealistic expectations. Life rarely follows a perfect path, and setbacks are a natural part of growth. Instead of asking, “Why did this happen?” try asking, “What can I learn from this?” That simple change in perspective can open the door to healing.

Leaving the past behind is not about forgetting. It is about carrying the lessons without carrying the weight. Every new day offers an opportunity to make different choices, build healthier relationships, and create a future that reflects the person you want to become.

The past may be a chapter in your story, but it does not have to be the final one. Your future is written by the choices you make today. I pray that you will choose to receive Jesus Christ today. Please watch the Great news video to find out more about his great love for you!

The Prayer of Salvation

Jesus, I don’t know You, and I don’t know what Your plan is for me. But thank you for coming to die in my place. I’m sorry for anything I’ve ever done wrong in my life. I don’t understand how You could ever forgive me, but if You really would, I would like to accept your free gift of grace and complete forgiveness. Please come into my life and take control, and help me trust You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
