Believers sing a new song. What does this mean? That’s a great question. Let’s look to scripture for the answer.

“I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted;

The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.

The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.

This is my God, and I will praise Him.”

Exodus 15:1-2

This was the Jews’ song of deliverance from Egypt.

Before God delivered the Jews, they’d been slaves in Egypt. They sang this song after crossing through the Red Sea on dry land after they left Egypt. Though anyone can say or sing these words, that’s not how the Bible uses this phrase. Only those who experienced that deliverance can genuinely sing the song. It is their song.

They didn’t escape by their own might or strength. God hurled the horse and rider into the sea, and they praised Him for His salvation.

This is the Song of Moses

“For I proclaim the name of the LORD; Ascribe greatness to our God!

“The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just;

A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.

“They (the Jews) have acted corruptly toward Him.”

Deuteronomy 32:3-5

Moses sang it just before he died. It gave a history of the Jew’s journey out of Egypt while they wandered in the wilderness. This was not only a historic reminder of their experience but a warning about their future. It was his song.

The message reminded the wilderness generation of the greatness of their God. They numbered two million, yet God led them through desert land. He provided enough food and water to sustain them for forty years, even though the people sometimes rebelled.

While they wandered, a Rock followed them, and water flowed out of it. In the New Testament, the Bible tells us that the Rock Who followed them was Christ. This was their song.

Christ sustained His people then, just as He promises to provide for His believers now.

This will be the song of the 144,000

“And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders;

and no one could learn the song except the one hundred and forty-four thousand

who had been purchased from the earth.….

These have been purchased from among men as first fruits to God and to the Lamb.

And…they are blameless

Revelation 14:3-5.”

This is the song of the sealed witnesses during the tribulation. Before the future seven-year tribulation begins, God will seal these one hundred and forty-four thousandso they can’t be harmed until they have completed their mission: They will be God’s witnesses to earthdwellers during this time. No other group of God’s servants, before or after them, will have their experience. Only they will learn and sing this song.

God will purchase these witnesses from among humanity; they will be the first fruits of Himself and the Lamb. The first of many faithful witnesses. They become martyrs who, at death, go into God’s presence during this future time of trouble.

This is the song of redemption

Believers of the Church Age also have our own song. It tells the story of Christ’s redemption.

Note: The Church Age began at Pentecost and will end at the rapture.

And they (raptured believers in heaven or their representatives) sang a new song, saying,

“Worthy are You (Jesus) to take the book and to break its seals (of judgment);

for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood

men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God;

and they will reign upon the earth.”

Revelation 5:9-10

 During the Church Age, God focuses His salvation efforts on the Gentiles. He purchased believers, including Jewish believers, with Jesus’ blood. This is the Church’s song. Believers sing a new song.

God offers His salvation to the world through Jesus, our Lord.

Everyone’s salvation is by believing in Jesus. Still, the details of how God brings us to that salvation are unique to our group and special to the Church. During this age, believers can live the song of redemption. Click here to find out how you can be saved today! Believers sing a new song!

The Prayer of Salvation

Jesus, I don't know You, and I don't know what Your plan is for me. But thank you for coming to die in my place. I'm sorry for anything I've ever done wrong in my life. I don't understand how You could ever forgive me, but if You really would, I would like to accept your free gift of grace and complete forgiveness. Please come into my life and take control, and help me trust You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
