Peace. It fell upon her like a gentle rain. Enveloped her like a warm hug. Replaced all of the fear that had taken hold on her life. Fear that had seemed impossible to overcome. It was a peace beyond her understanding. Something she thought was beyond her reach. It was a beautiful cloak of forgiveness. It was hers to wear forever. A covering. She would never have to lay it down. You are asking “Can I be forgiven if I keep repeating the same sin? So was she. After all, she was on trial for her crimes at this very moment.

Do I Deserve Forgiveness?

Perhaps she didn’t deserve such a gift. She had done shameful things. Things she thought could not be forgiven. Maybe she felt a lot like you. She often felt that she didn’t matter anymore. That there was no hope for her. That she was stuck and had no other option.

But it was real, this peace. Along with a joy that made no sense, given her circumstances. Perhaps her circumstances were similar to yours, or maybe better, but maybe worse.

How Can I Be Forgiven By God?

She had committed a sin that deserved death. The crowd wanted to stone her. To punish her wrong doing. They could not see the person that she was. The one who needed hope. Who needed love. Who needed forgiveness.

But he saw her.

He, the King of Kings. The Lord of Lords. The creator of the universe. The one who had created her. Who created me. created you. The only Son of God. Jesus Christ. He had great compassion for her. Offered his love and mercy in the midst of the storm. He took up a stone, lifted his hand and extended his arm. But not to cast the stone. Instead to teach a lesson to those who stood ready to kill her. To judge her. To condemn her.

Whoever of you has never sinned, let him throw the first stone, he said.

John 8:7

Who has never sinned? Certainly none of them. Definitely not one of us. Absolutely not me. Without sin? Only Jesus. The perfect Messiah. So the accusers dropped their stones and left, one by one.

And when they had gone, Jesus went to her.

Does no one accuse you?” he asked. “No one Lord”, she replied. “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

John 8:11

You see, Jesus came rescue her. To rescue us. To show us the love of God. To teach us how to live. To call us as his own. To offer forgiveness. Salvation. Eternal life in heaven with him.

God Will Forgive You

He saw our sin. He understood our needs. When others accused, he lifted his hands and extended his arms on a cruel cross. Poured out his life in our place. Offered us mercy and grace and his peace we cannot understand.

His life for ours. He paid the price for all of our wrongs.  He loves us. He loves you. He is calling you to follow him. You can be forgiven today.

The Prayer of Salvation

Jesus, I don't know You, and I don't know what Your plan is for me. But thank you for coming to die in my place. I'm sorry for anything I've ever done wrong in my life. I don't understand how You could ever forgive me, but if You really would, I would like to accept your free gift of grace and complete forgiveness. Please come into my life and take control, and help me trust You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
