We recently had a question submitted to the Cuurio platform that said this: “How have you experienced God’s grace – blessings that you don’t deserve?” Whether we’re aware of them or not, we all receive God’s blessings – do I deserve them is another question entirely. But knowing what we know about God’s love, we already have a good idea about what that answer will be.
God’s Blessings – Do I Deserve Them?
The short answer is that we all experience blessings we don’t deserve, because any blessings God sends come in spite of us, not because of us. Don’t get me wrong – I don’t mean that we’re all so evil that we don’t deserve anything good in our lives. What is true, however, is that God’s forgiveness is perfect, and because of that, He overlooks our imperfections and gives us good things anyway.
I Am Special
I often feel like I am blessed far beyond what I should be blessed, because I’m not special or unique. However, to God, I am both special and unique. He made me on purpose, allowed Jesus to die in my place, and loves me in spite of my mistakes and my rebellion against Him. And He loves to give me good blessings, because I belong to Him.
Does God Love Me?
Do I deserve His blessings? No. Do I get them anyway? Yes. Is it because I’m so great? Definitely not! It’s because He loves me and chooses to give them to me, and no other reason.
God’s Goodness
James 1:17 says “every good and perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” Another way of putting it: if we have anything good in our lives, it’s from God. All of it. Which means even the smallest positive moments that come our way, no matter how trivial they may seem, come directly from God – because He loves us. We don’t earn them, we don’t deserve them, and we aren’t owed them – but He gives them to us anyway!
Grace and Blessings
So to answer the original question, I guess I have to say that I experience grace and blessings from God I don’t deserve on a daily basis, and I accept all of the above with great gratitude and humility – including (and especially) the massive blessing of His saving grace in my life.
