God isn’t hiding and the problem isn’t with Him. The problem lies with us. The Bible tells us:
There is no one who seeks after God” (Romans 3:11). Let’s talk about your question, how can I find God.
We invite you to find God today by watching the Great news video on this page. God loves you just as you are. Believe in the name of Jesus and you will be saved.
We Hide from God
We are accountable to God our creator. But we know we’re sinners by nature and that God is holy. And a holy God must judge sin. So, we try to hide from Him, just as Adam and Eve did after they first sinned:“The man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden” (Genesis 3:8).
God Seeks Us
After Adam and Eve had rebelled and hid from God, they didn’t seek God; God sought them:
“The Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you (Genesis 3:9)?”
We Can Find Him
God promised us several times that those who seek Him will find Him. But our search must be heartfelt:
“You shall seek Me and find Me, when you shall search for Me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13; see also, Deuteronomy 4:29; Proverbs 8:17)
God Constantly Looks for People Who Seek Him
“The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God” (Psalm 14:2).
God’s Handiwork is Everywhere
We can’t help but see God’s handiwork everywhere. His creation makes His presence known. And we’re responsible to understand that and respond to that evidence:
“The invisible things about Him—His eternal power and deity—have been clearly seen since the creation of the world and are understood by the things that are made, so that (we) are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night declares knowledge” (Psalm 19:1-2).
The Apostle Paul preached the gospel in Athens, saying,
“Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious. For as I (looked) at your objects of worship, I found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom you therefore unknowingly worship, Him I proclaim to you” (Acts 17:22-23).
Who Is God?
These men sought God and knew there was one true God, but they didn’t know His Name. We can conclude there is a God, but not know enough about Him to distinguish Him from other gods, objects, or sources of wisdom. Because of our rebellion, there’s a barrier between us and God.
He Came to Earth
The Prophet Isaiah, who lived seven hundred years before Jesus was born, was aware of this barrier that separated heaven from earth. He made a prayerful cry that God would tear it open and reveal Himself:“Oh, that You would rend the heavens and come down” (Isaiah 64:1).
God Sent His Son Jesus
God answered that plea when He sent His Son, Jesus, into the world. Jesus was the exact image of the invisible God. God Sent His Son Jesus:“He is the image of the invisible God … For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible…. For it pleased the Father that in Him all fullness should dwell, and to reconcile all things to Himself by Him, having made peace through the blood of His cross” (Colossians 1:15-16, 19-20).
The “UNKNOWN GOD” is no longer unknown. His Name is Jesus:
“There is no salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
So, How Can I Find God?
He isn’t hiding; we see Him everywhere. We’ll find Him when we seek Him with all our hearts.
He has removed all barriers by sending His Son Jesus, and by believing in Jesus’ Name, He saves us.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
