How Do You Go to Heaven? Great question! Let’s talk about it.

In days past, getting to an unknown destination was challenging. We might know the address and still need help getting there. So, we used helps, like maps and spoken directions. But even then, we sometimes had to stop and ask for advice (except us guys who famously were too proud to ask).

Maps to Heaven?

But the process is now more convenient for people with a cell phone or other mobile internet service. Now, we simply put the address into our cell phone, and it gives us step-by-step directions to our destination.

If only we had that service for arriving in heaven. If only we could plug heaven’s address into our cell phones and get step-by-step directions. Then we could be sure we’d get there.

A New Site with Directions to Heaven?

Come to think of it, we could put that information on the Internet. We could get an internet program to list step-by-step directions to ‘heaven.’ If we couldn’t get Google Maps or MapQuest to agree, we could set up our own site on the Internet for people seeking the correct route.

The problem is, if we did that, other people would set up similar sites with more complicated or contradictory directions. They’d confuse the clear-cut directions we’d present. They’d include some type of human works or misinformation about the gospel.

The Need to Know

But for now, we don’t have the luxury of that site. Many people need to learn how to get there, and many false or unclear messengers exist. So, what’s our best option?

The Option

Our best option is to find someone who has been there. Or, even better, someone who’s been there, knows how to get back, and has arrived at the correct destination. Do we know anyone who fits those qualification
“He (Jesus) said to them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world” (John 8:23

Jesus Came from Heaven.

He’d been there since eternity past along with the Father. Jesus told His earthly listeners that He was ‘from above.’ He’d been there and had come to live with people on earth:
“Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I came from God and proceeded into the world” (John 8:42).

He not only came from heaven, but Jesus’ visit to earth was only temporary. So, He’d soon return and knew the way.

One Option | Jesus is the Only Way to Heaven

Jesus is the only way to heaven. For earthly addresses, often, we’re offered a choice of direction that’ll get us to that same address. Some ways will avoid freeways, some may have better scenery, and some might have other advantages or take less time.

But our internet address site with directions for heaven would only have one option because there’s only one way:
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

He’s currently there with the Father, and He told believers that He’s preparing a place for us so we can be with Him:
“I go to prepare a place for you…. I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.… You know where I am going, and you know the way” (John 14:2-4).

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name (John 1:12).”
What, you may ask, no works?

No Works |Believe in Jesus to Get to Heaven

Therefore (the Jews) said to (Jesus), “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent (John 6:28-29).”

Rest in Jesus for Eternal Life

No works. No additions. No complications. Believe in Jesus and rest in Him because He’s achieved eternal redemption:
“By His own blood (by dying for our sins on the cross), He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption” (Hebrews 9:12).

Destination Heaven

Someday, maybe we’ll have that internet direction site set up. When it is, it’ll ask for your beginning location; you can type ‘Earth.’ When it asks for your destination, you can enter ‘Heaven.” It won’t give you multiple routes; it’ll say Jesus is the only way. You know where Jesus went, and now “you know the way.”

The Prayer of Salvation

Jesus, I don't know You, and I don't know what Your plan is for me. But thank you for coming to die in my place. I'm sorry for anything I've ever done wrong in my life. I don't understand how You could ever forgive me, but if You really would, I would like to accept your free gift of grace and complete forgiveness. Please come into my life and take control, and help me trust You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
