WWJD wristbands were a fad that was very popular when I was growing up. The point of the wristband was to remind the person wearing it to act as Jesus would. But how should a Christian live? How did Jesus live? These questions are integral to the Christian life because of the importance God has put on Christians as His followers here on earth. The Bible says that Christians are meant to be people who will be recognized by their faith, love, and actions. I will be explaining these from a Christian point of view so people can understand what the Bible says on the topic.

1. How Should We Live Our Lives?
The world will tell us that anyone can do whatever they want in life as long as it doesn’t hurt other people. However, this is so vague that it is left up to the individual to decide what “hurt” means. Many child molesters follow this and seriously believe that they are doing something that is okay. They believe that because they are showing the child what they believe is love, they are not hurting them. This is an extreme example but let’s get more personal.
The Washington Post claims that 60% of the money that comes to Mexican cartels is from marijuana sales in the United States. Buying any drug that comes from Mexico is fueling a group of terrorists who kill innocent civilians. 340,000 civilians have been killed by the cartel since 2006 in Mexico alone. However, almost no one seems to mind that their habit kills people because they don’t know the people.
In the United States 91.5% of men and 60.2% of women herein reported having consumed pornography in the past month (Pornography Consumption…, doi: 10.1080/00224499.2018.1532488). However, porn is fueled often by sex trafficking and many people have reported that while they were being sex trafficked, they were filmed. Almost 5 million people are trafficked around the world to be used and 20 percent of those are children. A very small percentage of people in the US stop viewing porn because it hurts people. They simply don’t think about it. The Bible gives us a very specific way to live that cannot be left up to personal judgment such as this.
2. Does God Expect Me to Be Perfect?
God wants us to follow Him but the way we go about it is what most people misunderstand about Christianity. Christianity focuses on following Jesus as well as we can, not about being as “good” as we can. The Bible is not a book of dos and don’ts. Rather, God calls us to have faith in Jesus to fulfill the will of God. Only when we have faith in Jesus can we be right in the eyes of God.
No amount of ‘good works” or “good actions” can help us achieve heaven without faith. When we have faith in Jesus the Bible says we will become a new creation. When we have faith our nature changes and we will naturally follow God. God knows that even those that have faith in Him will still sin. By His grace and mercy through the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus Christ that we are offered the gift of salvation and forgiveness of our sins.
3. What Rules Do Christians Have to Live by?
There are many rules in the Bible that Christians are called to follow but as mentioned following these will be the natural outcome of having faith in God. It is important to remember that the greatest commandment given by God is to love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. The second commandment is to love others as yourself. All of the commandments are encompassed in these two commandments. The only way that we can know how to love God is by knowing what the Bible says about God and by engaging with Him through prayer, loving God, and loving others.
4. How Should We Live According to Jesus?
Christians should live in complete submission to God. Often, I talk to people who believe that when they convert to Christianity that life will be easy and guaranteed happiness in this life. This is not true. Becoming a Christian is very challenging and very rewarding. The Christian is to give up their will for the will of God. All of your money, time, and abilities are surrendered to God to further the Kingdom of God and to show others how much God loves them.
This is not an easy life, but it is the best life. However, God livesninside all of those who become Christians. The Holy Spirit teaches us and encourages us to do the will of God. God created us with a need for fellowship with Him. When we believe in the name of Jesus, God fills us with His spirit. For more about emptiness read here.
5. How Can I Know God More?
The best way to know God more is by doing the things that the Bible says will bring you closer to God. Some of these things are praying, reading your Bible, and participating in a church. The Bible says that we have direct access to God at all times and when we are Christians God is inside us. God commands Christians to pray constantly. To learn more about praying click here.
Reading the Bible helps us understand God more because the people who wrote the Bible were led by the Holy Spirit to be truthful in all aspects. Therefore, it is our conviction that the Bible is without error. God was involved in the writing of His word. We learn who God is through the scripture. The Holy Spirit helps us understand the Bible in a way that cannot be understood without Him. The local church helps us understand who God. Interacting with fellow believers will strengthen your understanding and help encourage you to do follow Jesus .
