How will God bring heaven to earth? Let’s discuss this important question. You can know that you will go to heaven when you die. Please watch the Great News video on this page to find out how much God loves you!
God Created Heaven and Earth
God created the Earth and humanity as described in Genesis chapters one and two. There was no distance between Him and the Earth or people. He had intimate fellowship with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, visiting them in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8). God’s Heavenly home embraced the Earthly home He lovingly created for humanity.
However, Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating from the forbidden tree and shattering their relationship with their holy creator. Were they aware of the consequences of their actions? Did they see the distance they created between themselves and God? Between Earth and Heaven?
Sin Came Between Heaven and Earth
Heaven, God’s home, recoiled when they sinned. God moved it, perhaps in distance, perhaps in dimension, maybe to an infinite degree. Yet, whatever the measures, Earth was no longer nestled in God’s bosom.
God Chooses to Bring Heaven to Earth
Despite the obstacles, God chooses to bring Heaven to Earth and live among people. The Apostle John’s vision of future eternity illustrates this ultimate outcome.
“I, John, saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God …. And I heard a loud voice from Heaven, saying, “Look! The tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them. They shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God” (Revelation 21:2-3).
God Won’t Bring Heaven to Earth at Once
God won’t bring Heaven to Earth at once. Heaven returns cautiously, and God prepares the way. To begin, He sought to restrain the evil that had entered and spread on the Earth.
First, He brought a flood because,
“Every intent of the thoughts of (the human) heart was continually only evil…. So the Lord said, “I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth … for I am sorry that I have made them” (Genesis 6:5, 7).
Secondly, He confused the languages to scatter them on the Earth because,
“The people all gathered in one place and built a tower to unify and oppose God” (Genesis 11:1-9).
God’s next steps were as follows:
- He chose a man, Abraham, through whom “all families of the earth will be blessed” (Genesis 12:3).
- He chose a nation, Israel, through which He could make His Name known.
- He chose a mediator, Moses, through whom God brought a taste of Heaven to Israel by giving the commandments, the ark, the Tabernacle, and the Temple. Moses built these based on the blueprints of the realities in Heaven (Exodus 19-40).
- He chose a Savior-King named Jesus, who would save His people and the world by dying for their sins (Matthew 1:21; John 3:16).
The first direct contact Heaven made with Earth was through Jesus. In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus introduced the Jews to unmediated heavenly conditions. However, the Jews rejected this initial Kingdom offer when they crucified their Messiah.
Jesus’ heavenly contact continues through His Church via the Holy Spirit in this age. Jesus said,
“It is expedient for you that I go away. For if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you” (John 16:7).
After the Church Age, during the seven-year tribulation, God will again focus on restraining evil by,
“(Finishing) the transgression, and (making) an end of sins” (Daniel 9:24).
Jesus Will Bring Heaven Back to Earth
At the end of the tribulation, Jesus will bring Heaven’s rule to Earth through irresistible force. His righteous reign, which brings Heaven’s rule to Earth, will last one thousand years.
“They (resurrected believers in Jesus) shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with Him a thousand years” (Revelation 20:6).
After defeating Satan’s rebellion at the end of the Millennium, Jesus continues His reign into eternity while God establishes His heavenly home on Earth and dwells with His people:
“And I heard a loud voice from Heaven, saying, “Look! The tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them. They shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. ‘God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes” (Revelation 21:3-4).
The Progression
God brings heaven to Earth in stages:
Heaven withdrew from Earth when Adam and Eve sinned. To restrain the rampant evil that spread across the planet, God sent Noah’s flood and confused the languages at Babel.
He chose individuals, like Abraham and Moses, and a nation to represent images of Heaven on Earth.
The first direct contact between Heaven and Earth occurred through Jesus. His Sermon on the Mount introduced the Jews to direct heavenly principles, but they rejected this initial offer of the Kingdom.
Jesus’ presence continues in His Church through the Holy Spirit. Jesus will establish heaven’s rule on Earth with irresistible force to inaugurate His thousand-year reign.
