We have all heard the saying “the best things in life are free”. But are they really? As I have grown, I have come to the realization that time is more valuable than money. Money will come and go, but time you can truly never get back. It is how you use your time and energy that can ensure that you are truly living your best life. Let’s talk about some simple habits to help you live your best life every day. Find contentment in the small things.
Living Your Best Life Everyday
I often say, show me your priorities and how you spend your money, and you will show me your heart. So, I ask you, what is it that you want to be your legacy when you are gone? How do you want to be remembered and how do you want your footprint to have made an impact in this world? When you can answer this question in a way that gives you peace and allows you access to see your purpose, then you can better structure some simple habits to really live your best life everyday!
Some of the most successful people are successful because of the time they put into their passions, even if it is only 5 minutes scheduled into a daily routine. Consistency and belief are incredibly huge to make things happen in this world. Yet, the priority and focus of your goal can still have the power to bless you or rob you of your best life. Because as we acknowledged already, time is more valuable than money. How many people’s drive has been to give their children “their best life”, yet they worked so much that they missed everything? Or someone that worked so hard to become successful that they lost their time slot to have a family and settle down.
Easy Habits Don’t Come Easy
Simplicity doesn’t mean easy. If done right it means purposeful. To be intentional with the time you have on a day-to-day basis will allow you to live more present and allow you to reach those goals to fulfill that legacy that inspires you to make not just for yourself, but the next generation. Here are some simple habits to help you live your best life every day.
Take a moment. Breathe. Now think of someone who has inspired you. The most influential people have not only a story to tell, but a purpose that drives them. For example, the simplest role of a mother (maybe simple but not always easy), are her children. The time, unconditional love, energy that she invests in her family, day-to-day, is far more valuable than money, yet her family is her very legacy. Take a pause and let that sink in for a moment. A mother’s purpose is also her very legacy.
It is the very things we do, that show us who we are. If we aren’t living in a way that really shows the person we want to be or allows us the opportunity to be our best version of ourselves, what meaning would this discussion be? To really live your best life every day, is to be more present and purposeful with your time. And it doesn’t come from a pill bottle, there is no quick fix. It is a walk, a journey to embrace yourself; your spiritual walk, the right community & friends, to time with your family, to knowing your physical and mental limits, to know when to ask for help (because we weren’t meant to do it all), etc.
To start your journey and begin living your best life literally starts with today.
It begins with breathing. Without the right amount of oxygen to your brain, the next step won’t allow yourself to respond gracefully. Instead, you may react in ways of anxiety which can keep you in a state of chaos, robbing you from the peace the Lord has for you.
Remember, this is your time. You were led to read this for a reason, and I know that in the midst of chaos, it can be hard to hear but God has so much more for you. And with Him, it begins with resting in His peace. To get there, first breathe. You can’t rush the process, if you do, it won’t bear much fruit. Here are some simple habits to help you live your best life every day.
Take a Deep Breath
Now, I want you to take a moment to ask yourself each of the following questions. Be sure to take a deep breathe before asking the question, a deep breath before answering the question, and another deep breath after answering the question. This will help ensure that you are really navigating this next part more purposefully.
- What most inspires me?
- What is my greatest desire?
- Do I believe this for myself?
- What are my special gifts & talents?
- What are my quirks?
- What am I most thankful for?
- What & who is my legacy for?
- Who am I?
When someone asks who they are, many times they describe their roles. However, I want you to pause here and think about your answers.
Discover Who You Are
Now, I want you to revisit these questions again, but ensure that when you ask yourself, “who am I”, you respond with your name first. “I am” statements are extremely powerful because they are in reflection of who the Great, I AM says who you are. And coming into alignment with who He calls you is much more important that what the world may have labelled you.
So, let’s begin. Don’t forget your breathing though.
- Who am I?
- What most inspires me?
- What is my greatest desire?
- Do I believe this for myself?
- What are my special gifts & talents?
- What are my quirks?
- What am I most thankful for?
- What & who is my legacy for?
- Who am I?
Going forward, these answers should help you navigate your daily schedules and routines. Remember, these answers are for you and you alone. They will help you navigate your day-to-day life, to ensure that you are living more authentically to who you are and to your purpose. Simplifying your day takes practice, but when you reflect on aligning your answers above to your day, it will help you learn to give yourself grace and not take on roles that are not in alignment with you.
Simple Habits to Help You Live Your Best Life Every Day
- Morning Routine (Make bed, prayer, breakfast, stretching). Starting in the morning with a routine has proven to help make the rest of the day much smoother as its your first accomplishment of the day which increases brain function and motivation for what’s to come next.
- What needs to get done today? Make a check list of all the things you are responsible for and breaking it down to what has to be done and what you would like to get done. It will allow you to accomplish the “have to’s”, allowing yourself grace for the things you would like to get done for another day if you weren’t able to get it done today.
- Healthy Schedules. Getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, and the right nourishment is important for your health just as much mentally and spiritually as it is physically. Remember your body is a temple. You only have one body to live in during this life, if you can’t take care of you, it will be much more difficult to take care of everything else. (I say this with experience.)
- Live Presently. Be thankful for this day. Do something that helps you cherish the blessings of the day, whether it be family, going for a walk, writing…. Anything that speaks to your why will provide you a more powerful why and joy. Remember, time is more valuable than money.
These 4 simple habits are customizable to you but will help you better navigate and reflect on what is most important to you and your purpose, which ensures that you are not just living your best life everyday, but you are more present in living it.
