There are times in our lives when we may feel that we have hit a concrete wall.  Everything seems blocked. Can’t go over it, through it, or around it.  This perception may occur after the loss of someone very dear or something important, or just the frustration of being unable to maneuver through the pitfalls of life which may include the loss of a great job or our beloved mate. We feel paralyzed.  It also may be a national or worldwide event that seemingly completely blocks the furtherance of your plans.  Stunned, we may ask some difficult questions. What do I do with my life now?  Why am I here? What is my purpose?

Who is Jesus? Does He get us? Find out more about who Jesus is and how much He loves you. If you would like to experience His forgiveness and salvation, we invite you to watch the video on this page. Your life can be transformed by the only true and living God today!

What Can I Do?

Life must go on, but I have lost focus, initiative, and purpose.  Perhaps for the first time in my life, I feel a complete lack of control, no motivation, and an overwhelming loneliness in it all. The future shows no promise. I am purposeless and frightened.

But there are answers. We do not need to stay stuck in the doldrums. It is up to us to do something, to try again.  It’s okay to fail. But we cannot remain impotent. There is a life out there worth the living, worth the effort.  How do I get started, you may say.

So, What Do I Do With My Life Now?

Honest Scrutiny

Being honest with your self-examination may hurt, but it can also make for a renewed beginning. Take a step back and look at the situation. If your question What Do I Do Now is because of a recent loss of job – and if fired, were you really surprised that you were let go?  Did your significant other walk out for no reason – had you not seen it coming?  Would a consultant’s interview reveal that you had not been mindful of a growing disassociation with a spouse and a diminished performance in your area of employment?

Perhaps the first step forward in that case is honestly critiquing our social and work ethics. Did our actions and attitude contribute to the present situation? Until we can be honest with ourselves, rather than blame-oriented, we will be unable to make great forward strides. Upping our pursuit of excellence in the work area in a realistic manner will be the first move on the one hand.

Morn the Loss

On the other hand, if you were unjustly thrown against this wall, a period of mourning the loss, reassessment, and yes, even forgiveness, may be your first step in developing an answer to What Do I Do Now?  You well may have been treated very badly and suffered a major financial setback unjustly. You have no recourse. You are understandably devastated. Be kind to yourself. Take some time to recoup emotionally even when financially it looks impossible.  You have been maligned.  You have suffered unjust treatment. Honestly assessing the situation, considering the source, and forgiving the decision maker will aid in going forward again and in seeing more clearly where we are in the now. Open your eyes, my friend – God is going to give you something very good in his sight.

If this seeming inertia you are suffering is due to the loss of a mate for whatever reason, take a serious look at who you are, where you are, and where you need to be. It’s time to move on. You do have a future. Trust God.

Take Advice

When facing problems, dilemmas, or making choices, it is usually advisable to talk it over with someone you trust and who is knowledgeable in that particular area. Frustration in life and the inability to see any hope of going forward can lead to a depression that calls for the help of a counsellor or other mental health professional. Perhaps you need to talk with someone in your desired profession to get advice as to how you could qualify for employment, how to prepare for that position, and perhaps even ask that person to mentor you.

Do Something – Get Started

Don’t wait for a perfect situation to drop in your lap. That’s doubtful.  And this may not be the year you win the lottery.  Take a not-so-perfect job in order to stay in the game while you search for something that inspires you. Take walks, attend lectures, play pick-up ball games in the park, shovel snow for your neighbor.  Keep involved as you search for the fulfillment of your dreams. Improve your people skills, practice being kind to everyone you see.  Become a better person. Exercise.  Eat a healthy diet.  Get adequate sleep. Get up and move it on out. Have more fun in your life. Love and accept love.

Talk to People

It is amazing what we learn by just conversing with different groups or individuals.  Ask what they do for a living. Their creativeness may give you ideas.  No longer can you identify a successful person by the way he/she dresses. Listen more, talk less. You will meet some amazing people whose story will add fire to your motivation to develop your dreams – at work, in marriage, or in service to the community and nation.  Your world will grow, and you will become a much more interesting person, a more employable person, a great team player. We were not meant to be alone but to have friends, great conversation, and to share meals. It’s a big and interesting world – reach out.

Be Inspired

An unfed inner soul becomes dry and hard much like cracked leather soles.  Are you missing the real meaning of life, the reason you are here on this earth? You are here for a purpose: to provide through work for the physical and mental needs of mankind; to be caring to others; to know, love and trust God; to find joy in creation and service; to care for this world and improve the quality of life that God has made available. Our hope is in Jesus the Christ.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing so that you may abound in Hope.” Romans 15:13.

Attending a local church gathering, interfacing with people interested in the welfare of mankind, and socializing with joyous people will ignite a fire within you and spur you on to personal development. “Seek the Lord while He may be found.” Isaiah 55:6. Watch the film at the end of this article entitled Great News for You.  Your life is important to God. You can have the forgiveness, love, and acceptance that only God can give.  I hope you will watch this short film.

Don’t be Afraid to Try

It’s okay to fail at something we attempt. Many, many times.

“A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. Goals broken down into steps become a plan. A plan backed by action becomes reality.”  Unknown author but probably in essence written millions of times.  As a child we learned “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”  I have read stories of athletes who perfected a basketball maneuver, for instance, by repetitive shots in the thousands.  Ask a baker how many times he altered a bread recipe before producing the perfect loaf of bread. Doctors may have failed entrance exams to medical school but tried again and became fantastic medical providers. Don’t be afraid to try!

Move Forward

Claim Victory.  Prepare, Pray and Proceed.  Yes, time to go forward.  Claim your rewards – rewards of work, accomplishment, serving, becoming, finding hope, love, and fulfillment. No longer on the sidelines of life. God will strengthen you; he will carry you when necessary.  Your strength and commitment to success will deepen.  You, yes you, will make a difference in so many lives. You can rise again. God is not through with you yet. Commit your life to His service.

Trust God

God has a plan for you. He has many blessings ready for you. Don’t miss them. Step back into the arena of life. You are exceptional. There is no one just like you. Reach out to the Living God for strength and protection. Rejoice! Encourage others!

Jesus said, “I have come so that you can have life and have it more abundantly.” John 10:10. Let’s do it!

The Prayer of Salvation

Jesus, I don't know You, and I don't know what Your plan is for me. But thank you for coming to die in my place. I'm sorry for anything I've ever done wrong in my life. I don't understand how You could ever forgive me, but if You really would, I would like to accept your free gift of grace and complete forgiveness. Please come into my life and take control, and help me trust You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
