People think it is often difficult being a Christian and telling people about Jesus. This question, “What do I say to people when they ask me about God?”, is one that I often encounter because we have become so individualistic. Many of us find it difficult to speak to people we do not know. When this question comes up, I always believe it is from a sincere heart. However, I think in most people’s minds that this is approaching strangers and pitching them Jesus like a salesperson.

In the Bible, this is frequently seen, and I think this should be the goal of the Christian life for everyone. While this is a way to talk about Jesus it is not the main way that the majority of people use now because it is difficult for many. Many people will find it much easier to simply live a Christian life in love towards others and when questioned why they do this they can tell how Jesus has changed their life. While this can be very rewarding is it is usually something that doesn’t happen frequently and this in my experience will lead to apathy. Rather, I think it is even better to be looking for opportunities to share Jesus whenever possible with those whom we love.

The Christian life isn’t meant to be easy and isn’t meant to keep you in your comfort zone. The more you’re able to do this the easier it will be to evangelize to even people you do not know. I would love to help you further with any questions you may have. Cuurio also has many questions that may help further as well. Feel free to reach out at anytime at johnjr@steeplelesschurch.com. 5 Common Questions About Sharing

1. What if I don’t Know Enough about the Bible?

This is something that comes up a lot for me as a pastor. Frequently people tell me that they feel as if they do not know enough about the Bible to share God. While explaining the Bible is important, all Christians have the Holy Spirit inside of them. Everyone who is a Christian can share how God has affected them and changed their life for the better. When people start asking specific questions of the Bible it is best to direct them to the Bible itself. You can search for the answer together if you don’t know the correct answer.

Speak to a pastor or a strong Christian you know. It is okay to not know everything from the Bible. However, we should all spend time in the Bible so we can answer people who ask specific questions. Until then, tell them your personal experiences with God and they will be blessed by it.

2. Why does God Expect Everyone to tell People About Jesus?

This is one of the main ways that God’s name is brought glory. All Christians are called to bring glory to the name of God by sharing with unbelievers. In sharing God we are also helping all the people around us by showing them the love of God. If we frame our minds around the fact that we are all God’s children I think it makes it easy for us. God has created all humans and they are His children. He has given them free will so they can live a life choosing to be with or without Him. God does not force people to become Christians, rather He uses His glory and His people to bring His lost children back to Him. If you had a child who had rejected you, wouldn’t you want them to come back to you no matter their flaws?

3. How can the Church Help me do this?

God has set up the church to both bring glory to God and to strengthen believers. One of the main goals of the Church is to help all Christians be able to evangelize to everyone they can. SteepleLess Church would love to help you with anything you need to do this. We are available to people almost all the time and would love to speak to you about how to do this.

4. What Happens if I tell People About Jesus?

People who know you care about your life and what you have been through. The more connected to the story the more they will care. If you tell a story about a random man who found Jesus and not much happens in the story, they probably won’t connect with the story much. If you talk about how you have experienced Jesus, they are probably interested and will connect because your emotions and personality will already be invested in and told throughout the story. Salvations will happen if you tell people about Jesus and God’s name will be made known. There is no greater thing that God has given us the ability to participate in with Him. The Bible says the heavens rejoice when a person finds Jesus, we all should want to be a part of this.

5. What Should my First Step be in Sharing Jesus?

Live your life as the Bible proposes. Nothing leads people away from God faster than people who call themselves Christians but act worse than everyone around them. Being racist, lying, cheating, stealing, cursing, etc., why would anyone want to be more like you if you do these things? We should all try to sin as little as possible and love God and others as much as possible. With radical love will come questions about who you are. We are all sinners, do not forget that, but we can all break down our pride and humble ourselves. Admit every day when you wake up that you need God to help you become more like Him. Read your Bible. Pray. Love God and love others. If you can’t do this you cannot be a disciple of Christ.

God loves you deeply and I would love to help you with any questions you have about Christianity. SteepleLess Church would love to be a place for you to hear about God too. You can connect with me anytime at johnjr@steeplelesschurch.com. God bless.

The Prayer of Salvation

Jesus, I don't know You, and I don't know what Your plan is for me. But thank you for coming to die in my place. I'm sorry for anything I've ever done wrong in my life. I don't understand how You could ever forgive me, but if You really would, I would like to accept your free gift of grace and complete forgiveness. Please come into my life and take control, and help me trust You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
