For about the past dozen years or so, one of the highlights of my Christmas experience has been attending a candlelight service at church – and one of my favorite moments is the song “Heavenly Child” performed by the composer himself, Danny Davis – if you haven’t heard this song, you’ll be blessed by watching the “Heavenly Child” video on this page. Experience God’s love. What does God think of you? Listen to His own words.
This year, the pandemic prevented me from attending the service in person and, likewise, Danny was unable to perform this song in person. So, I was surprised and delighted as I watched the online Christmas service and heard those first few guitar chords that I recognized as the introduction to “Heavenly Child”. But it wasn’t Danny performing; it was another talented singer. I can’t imagine the pressure he felt, performing a song so recognizable and closely attached to its composer. Yet this singer’s version was beautiful and touching.
God Speaks to You
A few days later, I watched another online church service that concluded with a performance of “Heavenly Child,” but this time in the familiar voice of Danny Davis. There is something special about hearing a song straight from the composer. The lyrics and tune have a deeper level of meaning knowing that the singer himself gave life to each note and every word he’s singing. Danny developed his vision from an idea into a song through the creative process, fine tuning, fine tuning and fine tuning until he got it exactly right. And each word came directly from his heart – no artistic interpretation added. Watching this gifted performer sing a God-inspired song is a gift in itself. What does God think of you?
How Can I Know God?
Just as the new singer who performed “Heavenly Child” was reflecting someone else’s creativity, our world is a reflection of God’s glory. Watching a glorious sunrise, viewing the expanse of an ocean, or gazing at a star-studded night sky is awe-inspiring, but these small elements of creation are nothing in comparison to the Creator. And, as we celebrate the birth of Christ, the lights strung as decorations are beautiful – but pale in comparison to the Light of the world.
The great news for you is, we don’t have to experience only a reflection of God – we can know God personally and understand His love and saving grace intimately. And nothing compares with experiencing a personal relationship with God – which He wants to have with each of us.
Have you ever wondered, “What does God think of me?” Listen to His own words:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.John 3:16
Does God Love Me?
God expressed his deep love for you through His “Heavenly Child”, Jesus. By His actions, God made it clear: He loves you. Nothing can or needs to be added to the message that God expressed when He sent His own Son to be born into this world as our Savior.
God Himself created you directly from His heart – giving you life, love and the promise of forever spent with Him – an incomparable gift that is offered to anyone who accepts it. You have a direct connection to the Creator of the universe, and He loves you more than you can imagine. Accept His wonderful gift.
