A number of studies have shown that meditation can help to reduce stress, anxiety and depression. Meditation can also help to increase self-awareness, focus and concentration.
There are a number of ways to meditate, but the basic principle is to focus on the breath and to allow thoughts and distractions to pass without getting caught up in them. It can be helpful to find a comfortable place to sit or lie down, and to focus on the breath for a few minutes. So what is a guided meditation for happiness?
How to Meditate on Scripture
I love to meditate on scripture. Meditating on God’s word is the only source of true joy in my life. His word is alive. His word brings life to my soul and hope to my heart. I read my Bible early in the morning, before the distractions of life have time to steal my attention. On the days I miss this quiet time of communing with God I don’t experience His wellspring of joy in the same way.
Romans 8:6. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

Benefits of Meditation
The benefits of meditation are cumulative, so the more you do it, the more you will benefit. However, even a few minutes of meditation can be helpful in reducing stress and anxiety and increasing happiness. So what is a guided meditation for happiness? Every time I meditate on something written in my Bible, my joy and happiness increase.
Finding Joy in Meditation
There are many different ways to approach guided meditation, but one of the simplest is to find a comfortable place to sit or lie down, close your eyes, and simply focus on your breath. Breathe in slowly and deeply through your nose, and then exhale slowly through your mouth. As you breathe, try to let go of any thoughts or worries that are on your mind, and simply focus on the sensation of your breath moving in and out of your body.
If your mind starts to wander, that’s okay – just gently bring your attention back to your breath. You may also find it helpful to focus on a mantra or affirmation, repeating it to yourself silently as you breathe. For example, you might say to yourself “I am loved.” I love to do this while praying to God. As I breathe in I pray “more of you Jesus” and as I exhale I say “less of me.” I want to be filled with the joy of the Lord each and every day.
Practicing guided meditation can be a great way to find a sense of calm and peace in your life. The peace and calm that are found in a true relationship with God through His Son Jesus. Give it a try today!
