What is God’s Will? That is an important question. What does the Bible tell us? Let’s talk about it.
What is God’s Perfect Will?
A Perfect Will?
Often, people wonder if God has a perfect will for our lives. So, they ask:
Does He have an ideal marriage partner for me somewhere in the world?
Does He have a preferred job for me to work?
Does He have a particular state, city, and house for me to live in? Am I in the right church, wearing the right socks?
Can I Fall Out of God’s Will for My Life?
Out of that Will?
And if I don’t marry that exact person, work that specified job, or wear the right clothes, am I out of God’s perfect will?
Should I ask God about every detail in my life? Where do I draw the line? Isn’t that the way to live the most spiritual life? What could be wrong with praying and asking God for guidance in every detail of life?

How Detailed is God’s Will?
It’s not like it’s morally wrong, but it’s unnecessary. God neither reveals His will in detail nor controls every aspect of our lives. If we don’t know what to do or it’s a life decision, we should pray and ask God for wisdom.
What are Our Resources?
God treats us as responsible individuals. We can make wise choices with God’s guidance in the Bible. He also gives believers a new nature and the Holy Spirit when we come to faith. The Holy Spirit guides us into truth and empowers us to deny our previous slavery to sin. When we need help, believers can entreat Jesus, our High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-16).
How Do I Find God’s Will?
How do We Live in God’s Will?
The Bible tells us how God expects Christians to grow:
“But solid food (mature teaching) belongs to those who are mature, for those who through practice have powers of discernment that are trained to distinguish good from evil” (Hebrews 5:14).
God’s Broader Will
What’s God’s Will for Unbelievers?
It’s to believe in the One whom He has sent (Jesus):
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life….He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16, 18).”
Jesus came to save sinners, and we’re all sinners. But believers have their sins forgiven when they believe in Jesus. Unbelievers asked Jesus if there were any works they could do to do God’s will, and Jesus answered:
“This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent” (John 6:29).
What’s God’s Will for Believers?
The believer’s purpose is to make God known.
The world doesn’t know God. The Christians’ goal is to reveal Christ through their behavior and testimony so that others may know Him. Jesus ascended into heaven, so the world mainly knows Jesus through us. He left us here to testify to Him.
Jesus said, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses…even to the remotest part of the earth (Acts 1:8).”
The Apostle Paul said, “Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved (1 Corinthians 10:33).”
The world best sees us in this way, “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:35).”
