We all have questions! And who is God is a great one! We are glad you asked. So let’s dig in and find the answer!
Who is God? 8 Attributes to Help You Know God:
1. God is All Powerful
The first words in the Bible tell us that God is the creator.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
The first chapter tells us He created humanity in His image and likeness. Because God created us in His image, we can relate to Him. Therefore, His emotions are relatable, and He responds to us in ways we can understand. Because God is our creator, and not natural processes, we are morally responsible to Him.
2. God is Spirit
He is Holy. He is separate from His creation and yet acts within it. He is life and He is light. There is no shadow in Him.
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1 John 1:5
3. God is Unique
He is not one of many other gods. His salvation is also exclusive of all other religions because there is no salvation apart from Jesus.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6
4. God is Eternal, Matter is Not
He didn’t come from anywhere, but He is everywhere. He has always existed. and is the ultimate first cause of all that He created. The cosmological argument says that everything that exists has a cause. But something (Someone) had to be eternal. God is that Someone. That these things are true are beyond our understanding.
5. God Revealed Himself Through Jesus
Jesus tells us that no one has seen God.
No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
John 1:18
However, God has revealed Himself through Jesus. But Jesus became human, and, in His humanity, He has revealed God (the Father) perfectly. Jesus is both fully human and fully God. The fact that Jesus remained fully God and became fully human is called the hypostatic union. Jesus said when we see Him, we’ve seen the Father:
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
John 14:9
God’s existence has been and continues to be one God who exists in three persons: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
6. God is Holy
Because God is holy, He cannot tolerate sin.
So, when Adam and Eve rebelled in the Garden of Eden, they died spiritually, and sin separated them from God. But God is compassionate, so He has provided redemption, a way back to Him. But God also is righteous, so He cannot allow sinful humanity into His salvation. The debt of sin must be paid and the wages of sin is death. We are all sinners and under a sentence of death. And our death cannot bring us life.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
7. God Forgives Our Sins
But Jesus died as a substitute for us. 1 John 2:2 says:
He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1 John 2:2
The word propitiation means that Jesus’ death on the cross, in our place, satisfied God’s righteous anger toward our sin. Because God is satisfied, He offers us salvation by faith in Jesus’ Name.
8. God is Love
The Bible tells us that God is love and His Word is truth. Because He loved us, He sent His Son Jesus so that everyone who believes in Jesus will have eternal life. We invite you to watch the GREAT NEWS FOR YOU video to find this eternal life God has promised to us. To you.
