Why did God create man? God created humanity to have dominion over the earth. When we sinned, He gave us Jesus, the Savior. There is now hope for everyone! Let’s discuss the answer to your question.
Why Did God Create Us?
God tells us why He created us in the first chapter of the Bible:
“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image … and let them have dominion over the fish … the birds … the livestock, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing … on the earth” (Genesis 1:26).
God Created People to Govern the Earth
But Adam and Eve rebelled against God, fell to the devil’s temptation, and Satan temporarily became ‘the god of this world’:
“ The god of this world (Satan) has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them” (2 Corinthians 4:4).
All Have Sinned
Since all people are descended from Eve and all humanity are sinners needing redemption. Humanity was no longer fit to rule the earth.
“The man (Adam) called his wife’s name Eve because she was the mother of all the living” (Genesis 3:20).
So, was God’s purpose thwarted by our rebellion? How could a holy God restore His original intention for us, i.e., governing His earth?
God Sent a Savior
But, even before humanity fell, God knew we’d rebel and had planned our redemption. So, from the day Adam and Eve fell, God promised to send a Savior. He made that promise in what’s known as the first evangel (first gospel):
“I (God) will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring;
He (Jesus) will bruise your head, and you (Jesus) will bruise his heel” (Genesis 3:15).
God the Father Sent Jesus
God the Father sent Jesus, Son of God, born of a virgin, innocent of sin, to reign forever as a son of David:
***“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who was in every sense tempted like we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15).
***“Your house (King David’s) and dominion will endure before Me (God) forever, and your throne (Jesus the descendant of David) will be established by the Lord forever” (2 Samuel 7:16).
Jesus Died for Our Sins
Jesus defeated Satan at the cross when He died for our sins and raised back to life on the third day. So, Satan is no longer the god of this world:
“Now (at the cross) judgment is upon this world. Now the ruler of this world (Satan) will be cast out” (John 12:31).
When Jesus returns, He will establish His Kingdom and reign forever:
“The seventh angel sounded, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying: “The kingdoms of the world have become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever” (Revelation 11:15).
Jesus Restored God’s Reason For Creating Us
Why did God create man? The Son of Man Jesus has restored God’s original purpose: for humanity to have dominion over the earth.
“Blessed and holy is he who takes part in the first resurrection (believers in Jesus). Over these the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with Him a thousand years” (Revelation 20:6).
In Jesus’ Kingdom and on into eternity, the saints, i.e., believers in Jesus, will co-reign with Him over a re-created earth, actively participating in the restoration and governance of this new world.
Why Did God Create Man?
God created humanity to have dominion over the earth.
Humanity lost the right to rule when Adam and Eve rebelled against God and became unfit to govern.
God sent His Son Jesus to defeat Satan, save people from their sins, and restore their rightful dominion over the earth.
In the Kingdom and into eternity, Jesus, and His saints as co-reigners will have dominion over a re-created earth, a world restored to its original harmony.
If you haven’t already accepted Jesus into your life, please don’t delay. You can experience the forgiveness, joy, and freedom that are found only in Christ Jesus.
